PRESS RELEASE
June 29, 2004

Liberal Minority Fuels Separatists - Time For Action Is Now.

Edmonton, Ab: "The Liberal minority government that was elected yesterday is proof positive that central Canada will never give anyone a chance to effect change inside confederation," states Bruce Hutton, interim leader of the Separation Party of Alberta. "But to be honest, I am not that surprised.  I have met many people from central and eastern Canada who vote Liberal because that party let their ancestors immigrate to Canada. Unfortunately they never think about the issues and the performance of the government before they vote."

The Separation Party of Alberta, a registered provincial political party, advocates the diversification of the Alberta economy to establish an economic base to help the province maintain its high standard of living and quality of life after oil and gas runs out or becomes obsolete.

"This economic diversification can not happen inside confederation," states Al Romanchuk, former mayor of Grande Prairie and the party's Chief Financial Officer. "The net economic cost for Alberta through the transfer of wealth under the current system will render us a have-not province in the future."

"Alberta's net cost to be Canadian in 2003 was 11.1 billion dollars, up from 9.98 billion dollars in 2002.  Alberta and Ontario are the only two provinces that are net payers under this system," laments Hutton.  "Alberta pays the most on a per capita basis.  The sad part of this is that Alberta has no end use manufacturing and therefore gets no return on this cost to be Canadian. The money goes to Quebec and other regions that are less fortunate than Alberta.  My question is 'Who is going to carry us when oil and gas are gone?' ".

The Separation Party of Alberta is currently scheduling town hall meetings throughout the province to spread their message, recruit members and develop constituency associations.  For more information contact their website at separationalberta.com
