The Separation Party of Alberta achieves official party status

Focus now on unseating Klein Tories; leadership race; running full slate of candidates for upcoming provincial election.

”Unresponsive governments force ordinary people to do extraordinary things.” - Bruce Hutton, March 2000.

Edmonton, Ab, June 9, 2004: Months of hard work and patience have paid off for independence-minded Albertans.  The Separation Party of Alberta (SPA), a movement whose mission is to ensure the future of Alberta for Albertans by becoming an independent nation separate from Canada, has gained official party status in Alberta.

"We've heard the call from Albertans for the creation of a party that will put Alberta's needs first," says Bruce Hutton, founder and interim leader of the Separation Party of Alberta.

"With the registration of the Separation Party of Alberta now complete, thousands of Albertans will now have the opportunity to cast a vote in favor of self determination."

The arrival of the Separation Party of Alberta on the political scene is bad news for the Alberta Progressive Conservative Party. Despite the fact that recent polls have shown as many as one in four Albertans to be in favor of independence as an option for Alberta, the Klein Tories have ignored calls from many within their own party to discuss it.  The government's contempt for independence-minded Albertans is so great that the Tories went as far as to refuse to entertain any discussion of the option of separation at the recently concluded MLA Committee on Strengthening Alberta¹s Role in Confederation hearings.

"This  arrogant attitude", says Hutton,  "is unacceptable  and will  lead to the eventual downfall of the Tory government. "

"The Klein government has consistently turned its back on thousands of Albertans by refusing to allow a serious discussion on Albertan independence to take place,"   Hutton continued.  "As we move forward in our quest for Albertan independence, I encourage Albertans to join our party and to send a message to Edmonton that the status quo is no longer acceptable.  With a strong separatist force challenging the Tories in the next election, the premier and his party ignore independence-minded Albertans at their own peril."

The Separation Party of Alberta will now turn its attention towards mobilizing volunteers, expanding party membership, and organizing at the constituency level in preparation for an upcoming provincial election.

The Separation Party of Alberta will also make great strides towards solidifying the party leadership in the months to come.
